SPY - 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG

This year will be rich in premieres for Mercedes-Benz. After launching the brand new generation of the popular SLK roadster at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the German constructor will also take the wraps off the sporty SLK 55 AMG towards summer. Contrary to other models in the portfolio of the Affalterbach-based tuner, the car is expected to retain the "55" particle instead of "63" in the official title, because, as history confirmes it, the AMG variants of the SLK were never powered by engines boasting a displacement larger than 5.5 liters. This third generation will also stick to the rule and come packed with a new creation under the bonnet: a naturally-aspirated version of the 5500 cc biturbo V8 engine launched in 2010. On paper, the new powerplant should produce up to 422 hp and remain as efficient as the unit it was born of. Together with the multiple assistance systems developed in the AMG laboratories to ensure the highest level of dynamics, agility and safety, the new SLK 55 AMG is armed with all the needed tools to outclass its direct competitors and claim the top position in the segment.
